^^;;; I thought the summer was going to wind down and I could relax a little.
Then the meeting happened.
I'm in a 12 person department (3 full-time & 2 part-time writers, the rest programmers or Help Desk).
Between now and May, we're losing 5 of them to reasons ranging from maternity leave to sick leave to going back to graduate school. That's nearly half our staff in one month.
Hopefully the two on maternity leave and sick leave will come back, but in the meantime we're going to be short-staffed in a group that could already use more people than it has except the budget won't pay for them.
Even if we hired replacements for the other 3 tomorrow (and it's more likely to be 4-5 months from now given the quantity of bureaucratic paperwork involved in hiring someone with the new and broken "enterprise
management system"), it takes several months to get a newbie trained. And it also takes manpower from those of us who are still here in order to do the training.
So we're going to be effectively working at less than half staff efficiency for most of a year. That's if nobody else gets tired of it and bails between now and then...

I know how that works. Never say it's getting better. I'm in the middle of a crap timwe at school and I'm procrastinating, aka waiting for the caffeine rush to hit before I hit an all nighter. Can't someone just kill me now ;P

Hmmmm...interesting, that's probably the wisest words I have read so far.
I should use that method, though first I need to reach that "nothing to lose" point ^^;;;
